The spring house (and probably used as cold storage) for the old barn on the Dam Road near Perch River Dam, Jefferson County
Part of the right top side of this small building has now collapsed. This spring house was part of the farm where one of the largest barns at one time in Jefferson County was situated, the barn was built between two hills.

The remains of one end of what was once considered the largest barn in Jefferson County, Perch River Dam Road, off from Parish Road
The barn was built by the late Tom Anthony between two hills and was 250 feet long and 60 feet from the roof to the ground. Horses and wagons loaded with hay could enter either end near the roofline and the hay was dumped down into deep mows on either side, which saved a lot of time at a time when most farm work was done by hand. The cows and horses were stabled in the bottom part of the barn, in the stone part. In front of the barn was the farm-house, also long-gone. These photos are of the limestone ramp at the north-west end, there was also one at the other end with a trail leading up the hill to it.

LOCATION: Combs Road - old stone house, Jefferson County. . These images were uploaded to Old Abandoned Buildings Site

This has been demolished and is now just a pile of rubble.. Comment: This house was built by Jonathan Webb in the mid 1800's. One of his children was Daniel Webb who married Lucinda Coon, who had a daughter named Mary Alice Webb who married Augustus D. Griswold and is my great grandmother. She was a school teacher and taught in the old schoolhouse on the corner of schoolhouse road. It is a very interesting study. Jonathon raised many horses on the 400 acres that he owned there and sold one team for $1200 (a lot of money back then) and they were taken to France where the story is that they were used by Luis Napoleon. Fun to know."
